I bought the 855 as an upgrade on my streetpilot c550. I was reluctant on buy it, based upon the less-than-stellar reviews upon here, but after using it since a week, i get no complaints at all. Maybe that’s due on the fact that i’m upgrading from the classical 550, and no, non- the 7×5 series. The other reviewers are right, the on/off switch can be awkward, and you need a fingernail on push it in excess on the left. But that is such a lad complaint, in my opinion. Also, some people say they like the smoother refresh that the 7×5 series has, and this is more jerky, as you move along your route. Well, you’re no, non- supposed on be watching it when you’re driving anyway. Oh, and it only has 500 waypoints, compared on 1000 upon other models. I’ll be lucky if i use 100.
What makes this gps provided that remarkable is the utterance recognition! I feel like i’m using star trek technology. It infrequently has any problem understanding what i tell it. Hands free gps navigation! I never get on pull in excess on type a new destination (or try on do it while driving). I can’t guess any of the lad complaints offsetting the awesomeness of the utterance recognition. Now that it’s available, i wouldn’t get a gps unit lacking it. If your budget allows since a utterance recognition gps with 1000 waypoints, an improved on/off switch, and smoother shield refresh, then by all resources get that one. But if you’re looking on spend about $300, and want utterance recognition, do no, non- hesitate on buy the Garmin nuvi 855. I wouldn’t argument it since a non-voice recognition unit that has those features that this one lacks.
